University of San Diego: A Beacon of Academic Excellence and History
The University of San Diego (USD) boasts a stunning 180-acre campus that overlooks San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. It represents the power of education and the pursuit of knowledge. The Spanish Renaissance-inspired architecture and beautiful gardens create an environment that supports personal growth, social responsibility, and intellectual exploration.
A Brief History
Founded in 1949, the University of San Diego emerged from the vision of Bishop Charles Francis Buddy and Mother Rosalie Hill of the Society of the Sacred Heart. Their goal was to create an institution of higher learning grounded in Catholic values. This vision led to the establishment of the San Diego College for Women and the School of Law.
Over time, these institutions merged and developed into the University of San Diego. In 1972, USD became coeducational by incorporating the College for Men into the San Diego College for Women.
