Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Barry University began as Barry College for Women with just fifty students. It was named after Mother Mary Gerald Barry, the Mother General of the Adrian Dominican Sisters. In 1954, the college transitioned to coeducation and expanded both its academic programs and campus facilities.
Over the years, Barry College evolved substantially and, in 1981, became Barry University. Today, it serves over 7,000 students from across the U.S. and around 80 other countries.
